"A YEAR ON THE ROAD"
In November of 1994, my wife Sue and I rented out our house and started driving south. For the next year, we traveled throughout Mexico, Belize and Guatemala, shooting 3D slides and stereoscopic video.
In the mountains of Nayarit, we encountered "Los Huicholes", an indigenous people so reclusive that they were never conquered by either the Aztecs or the Spaniards. Here, the daughters of Huichol artist Francisco Bautista pose for a 3D portrait.
The Shaman of the tribe took an interest in my work, and performed a Peyote cleansing ceremony for my 3D video cameras.
Wherever we went, magnificent scenery was our constant companion. Here, on the Pacific Coast, we camped in a coconut grove next to this semi-circular beach.
Descending a high mountain pass in the interior of Southern Mexico, we suddenly found ourselves in lush rainforest.
Mexico and Guatemala are scattered with ruins, built by the Aztecs, Mayans and Spaniards. This site of Palenque dates back to the Classic Mayan period, (300- 900 A.D).
Little more than this window and wall remain of what was once a Spanish convent in Antigua, Guatemala.
In the marketplaces of Chichicastenango, Guatemala, colorful flower petals are bought and sold. My appearance in these narrow alleys, wearing the 'Helmet-cam', created quite a stir.
